Am I un-American because I don't like Captain America? Get ready for action!
Captain America A.K.A. Steve Rogers. Created by Joe Simon & Jack Kirby. His first appeared in Timely Comics: Captain America Comics #1 (March 1941). He was, if not the first, certainly the most prominent and enduring of a wave of patriotically themed superheroes that American comic book companies introduced just prior to and during WWII. Captain America faced Nazis and Japanese troops during his 1940s heyday, but after the end of the war, his main reason for existence (as a fictional war hero) was gone, and the character's popularity faded. He is affiliated with The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. He has no superhuman powers (pumped up by a “Super-Soldier” serum doesn’t count). His weapon, A discus-shaped shield. Even the best artists in comics have had a hard time making this character look “cool”. I have NEVER gotten in Captain America and I doubt I ever will. I recently watched “The Avengers” DVD. It was so-so, not that bad and not that good. I’m not sure how CAP fits into the political fabric of 2000 and beyond and if he is still a relevant figurehead. Just thinking out loud. GET READY FOR ACTION!
